Today is a very exciting day for the Color BLACK. Now all the creative, beautiful, young minds in Tash’s Kindergarten class will learn how to make shades of all their favorite colors by adding the color black. www.supercoolart.com/lessons/color-theory/.
Black is the color of coal, ebony, and of outer space. It is the darkest color. It occurs as the result of the absence of or complete absorption of light. It is the opposite of white and often represents darkness in contrast with light.
The lightness or darkness of a color is called its value. You find the values of a color by making its many tints and shades. Tints are light values that are made by mixing a color with white. For example, baby pink is a tint of red, and baby blue is a tint of blue. Shades are dark values that are made by mixing a color with black. Maroon is a shade of red, and navy is a shade of blue.
Black implies self-control and discipline, independence and a strong will, and giving an impression of authority and power. The color black is often seen as a color of sophistication, as in ‘the little black dress’, or ‘the black tie event’. Affluent and success orientated women often choose black as it can give an impression of elegance, sophistication and confidence.
