SuperCool Art Product Testimonial, my experience with SuperCool Art by Jenni Kerklin
Okay…there is a lot of stuff in this kit so when I opened it I was excited and a little intimidated!
The intimidating part for me was the canvas. I’ve painted before but never put my own canvas together…never even owned a staple gun! So my daughter (Cailyn, age 5) and I went to work building the canvas. I was sure I would mess up, but it was super easy and we were both excited and proud of what we had just accomplished. It looked fantastic, perfect!
With the victory of the canvas behind us I was feeling really good! We popped out all the stencils, which we loved having the choice to use the stencil itself or the pop out to trace, most stencils don’t give you all the pieces. Cailyn then directed me as to where we would place the bird, flowers, hearts, etc. She was really tough on me, all the while making sure I had it just right. I drew out the stencils with a pencil (provided in the kit) and once I had her approval we headed off to the garage to create a masterpiece!
Now I have to say I thought we would slap some paint on and be done in half an hour or so, but no way. I put the little apron on Cailyn and we began laying out our colors. She came up with a plan for what our background colors should be and what colors of each of our objects and elements should be. I loved seeing her creative eye come out! I had just laid out the colors that came with the kit and at one point she looked at me sad and said “I wish we had a lighter color blue.”and I said “oh but we do, and she looked at me like I was crazy…I explained that we can mix colors to make any color she wanted! Well I just blew this little girls mind. We’ve played with color mixing before but never in this way, and with the Colorsaurus color wheel (also included in the kit) it was easy to teach her. At that moment she was the happiest 5 year old on the face of the planet. Guess what we did for the next hour? We mixed up new paint colors!
All in all the painting took us about 5 hours. I never thought I’d be able to hold her attention for that long but we spend that time in the garage and we were having so much fun that we even ate our lunch out there with our painted fingers and didn’t even care…Thank God for non-toxic, child safe paints.
Making our SuperCool Art was a fantastic experience that we will remember forever. The beautiful painting now hangs in our living-room and it’s just perfect. We can’t wait to get another stencil to create another masterpiece with!
