Mindful Holiday Shopping. As we begin to celebrate Hanukkah and Christmas this year please consider taking the time to shop mindfully, with the intention of giving from your heart, spreading goodness every step of the way. We are pure energy and what we put out is felt like the ripples of a wave.
You can bring mindfulness to your holiday shopping while finding the perfect gift that will make the recipient squeal with joy! All it takes is looking at where the materials came from, where the labor was performed, and the quality of the product, was it mass produced or hand-crafted, are you supporting a craftsman or artist or store that values you and your needs?
One easy and convenient way to bring mindfulness into your holiday shopping is to #shop #local and #smallbusiness. Businesses which have a stake in the area and are trying to grow in order to be able to create more jobs and bring more #goodness into the #community.
Small businesses consider your patronage a gift, a huge gift actually. I can tell you honestly that every single order that comes in makes me tear up, and it’s been this way for the past 3 years.. My partner thinks I’m silly, he doesn’t understand why every order touches me, he asks me “when will an order not cause me to get choked up”? I say “never, I hope”.
The reason that I get choked up is because it means the world to me that someone takes their hard earned money and chooses to spend it on my products, that they trust in and believe in me, that they are choosing #SuperCoolArt above other similar products, and that means everything to me. It’s validation that what I am doing is worthwhile, that I have created a quality product and I’m providing it for a fair price.
I don’t have the budget that the big craft retailers have, I can’t put out flyers and catalogs that fill up your mailboxes at this time of year or run commercials during peak kid-friendly show hours. I rely on word of mouth, social media, Mommy bloggers, co-promotions with charitable organizations, craft fairs, school events, you name it, I think I’ve tried it!!!
I have even made my partner go on the Let’s Make A Deal game show with me dressed as a paint palette and paintbrush in order to create awareness for my business!!! I have found that when you need to create brand awareness on a low budget, it really helps you to get super creative! You just never know which avenue will lead to success.
One of the things that I love the most about SuperCool Art is that it is actually a gift within a gift…. The stencil sets and art kits give children the opportunity to be inspired, to create, to draw, paint, chalk, etc.. whatever their imaginations dream up. The experience, the act of creating, the doing, that is the first gift, the hours spent having fun making something.
The finished work of art is the gift within the gift, the piece of that child’s imagination and experience that will be captured and preserved forever, to be remembered and cherished.
It seems that for so many life has gotten so busy, so stressful, so utterly hectic that we just shop to get it done, grab whatever is easiest just to get it over with. I’ve done this myself when life has gotten in the way and celebrating Christmas became something that I had to do. But in the last few years after going through hardships, job losses, health issues and starting a business,
I have promised myself that I would not celebrate in that manner ever again, it certainly didn’t feel good.
So this year the joy of the season, the kindness that people extend to one another, the thoughtfulness, the spirit, that will be what I let guide me through the season and what I share with everyone around me.
So I will #shopsmall, #shoplocal, #support #smallbusiness and know that my business is appreciated, that I am making mindful choices and that I am doing so with intention.
I hope you will join me, because together we can make all the difference in the world, one mindful, conscious, thoughtful, intentional act at a time. Happy Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Joyeux Noel, Happy Kwanzaa, Feliz Navidad, but most of all may you feel love this holiday season and every day throughout the year!
